Davis Cup 2010 - GB away to Lithuania in R1, to be played March 5-7. Don't think I'll be going to that one, somehow! Full draw and dates etc. inside.

Right, here we go - this is a 16 nation group with only the top 2 teams to go up to Group 1 next year, so there are 3 matches to be won. Ties will be played March 5-7, July 9-11 and Sept 17-19 (I think!). I'm not sure about all the home or away details but for now we only have to worry about R1 anyway!
Full draw is as follows:

GB v Lithuania
Ireland v Turkey
Monaco v Bulgaria
Slovenia v Norway
Portugal v Denmark
Egypt v Cyprus
Hungary v Estonia
Bosnia-Herzegovena v Macedonia

- I'm afraid DC was meaningless to me before Tim and has returned to meaninglessness (if there is such a word!) again. I am wondering if it might be better for Andy Murray not to play DC for a while, I don't think that will be a popular comment, but without realistic back up it's unworkable.     - I'm with you too Linda, and agree that Murray, having been given every support not to play, shouldn't. Let a new young team emerge from this situation. On the other hand, if Tim had been given every excuse not to play he'd have still done so, if fit,and fought his socks off for team GB at even this level. - By Liz September 23, 2009 at 08:20:20 PM

        Mind you, if Murray had shown even half the fire and passion for the doubles on Saturday as he did for the singles on Sunday, they'd probably have won that match! But then it was only the tie that was at stake on Saturday, whereas he had his own singles record as an added incentive on Sunday ... or am I just being cynical??? :-) - By Jean September 24, 2009 at 02:02:54 PM

        Yes, there was a different 'feeling' altogether when Tim was playing but even he got worn down with the dream he so cherished, think Austria. In a way it's not fair to Murray to play DC, he cannot win it alone and he may injure himself for the tour. Best to let the new British players have a go. It's vital experience for them and can only help long term the aims of British tennis. Maybe in those lower ranks lurks another Tim Henman. - By Linda September 26, 2009 at 10:15:23 AM
        I remember when we played Zimbabwe at Crystal P. Both Tim & Greg were injured and couldn't play, BUT they both turned up to support Andrew and Jamie, which showed their level of commitment. - By Gill Hurrell September 26, 2009 at 11:42:20 AM
